Case Update: April 19 shooting investigation

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. โ€“ The City of Battle Creek is providing an update to the shooting incident reported on Sunday, April 19, in the area of North McKinley Avenue and NE Capital Avenue.

As previously shared, two individuals were injured when the vehicle they were inside was struck by gunfire. Both individuals were transported to a local hospital and were listed in stable condition. At the time, the Battle Creek Police Department determined the incident appeared to be isolated, with no ongoing threat to the public.

On Thursday, April 23, following several interviews, a 17-year-old suspect voluntarily turned himself in to police, accompanied by his mother. The juvenile was arrested and lodged at the Calhoun County Juvenile Home, where he is facing four counts of attempted murder and felony firearm charges.

This investigation remains ongoing.
