Two injured in early-morning shooting

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – Two people were injured in a shooting reported early Sunday morning in Battle Creek.

At approximately 4:30 a.m. Sunday, April 19, Battle Creek police officers were dispatched to the area of North McKinley Avenue and NE Capital Avenue after multiple 911 callers reported hearing gunfire.

Investigators determined the victims were inside a parked vehicle when it was struck by multiple rounds of gunfire. The victims drove themselves to a local hospital in the vehicle following the shooting, and police were notified while officers were canvassing the area.

The victims are a 17-year-old female and an 18-year-old male, both Battle Creek residents. Both are listed in stable condition.

At this time, the Battle Creek Police Department believes this was an isolated incident, and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
