Great ShakeOut
Great ShakeOut Drill - Thursday, October 15, 2026
On Thursday, October 15, at approximately 10:15 AM, the tsunami sirens will sound as part of the Great ShakeOut Drill, a nationwide exercise designed to raise awareness and encourage preparedness for earthquakes.
The siren will sound different from the normal monthly test. You should hear the “wailing” sound used to indicate a tsunami warning.
DO NOT BE ALARMED. THIS IS ONLY A DRILL.
You SHOULD, however, use this opportunity to practice the “Drop, Cover, and Hold On” protective action during this drill.
This is also a good time to make sure you have an emergency kit or “go bag” ready in the event an actual emergency requires evacuation or leaves us without power and basic necessities. You should be prepared to be self-sufficient for at least 7 days.
