Algae Bloom Present - Toxin Results Pending

⚠️ ALGAE BLOOM PRESENT – TOXIN RESULTS PENDING
September 16, 2026

The City of Ocean Shores is notifying the public that a cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) bloom is present in the canals. Samples are being tested, and toxin results are currently pending.

Signs at public docks and boat launches have been changed to the appropriate algae bloom warning signs. Please follow all posted warnings and use caution around affected waters.

While we wait for laboratory results, please use caution:

  • 🚫 When in doubt, stay out.

  • Avoid contact with water containing visible algae.

  • Keep children and pets away from the water and algae.

  • Do not drink untreated surface water.

Cyanobacteria can cause illness in people and animals. Not all cyanobacteria blooms are toxic, and laboratory testing is required to determine whether toxins are present.

The City will provide an update when test results are available.

Please share this information with others who may use or visit the affected waterway.
