Airport Farm Lease Bid Notice

The City of Independence will be considering sealed bids for a farm lease of 59 acres, more or less, of tillable land located adjacent to James H. Connell Field at the Independence Municipal Airport. The land is divided into four parcels. Bids must be sealed and delivered to City Hall no later than December 11, 2026, at 12:00 noon. The bid amount must be stated on a per acre basis. As part of the sealed bid, each bidder shall identify the crop they intend to plant on the leased acreage during the first year of the lease. The City of Independence intends for the leased acreage to be maintained in an annual row-crop rotation and returned to a rotational cropping system. The City will not accept a bid proposing to maintain or establish alfalfa crops on the leased acreage. Failure to identify the intended first-year crop may render the bid non-responsive. Each bidder must use the form provided by City Hall to submit a sealed bid in order to be considered as a responsive bidder. The successful bid will be required to provide liability insurance coverage on the property in an amount not less than two million dollars ($2,000,000) listing the City of Independence as an additional insured. Questions can be directed to Matthew Schmitz, City Manager at mschmitz@independenceia.gov or by calling 319-334-2780.
