Battle Creek Police investigating fatal shooting on South 22nd Street

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – Battle Creek police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred early Wednesday, July 9, in the 100 block of South 22nd Street.
Officers responded to the scene just after 2 a.m. and found a 31-year-old man with a gunshot wound. LifeCare Ambulance transported the man to Bronson Battle Creek Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Detectives from the BCPD Investigations Bureau were called to the scene. After conducting interviews and reviewing evidence, investigators identified a 36-year-old man — known to the victim — as the suspect.
Preliminary findings indicate the two men were involved in a heated argument involving a third party when the suspect allegedly shot the victim.
The suspect was later located at a separate residence, interviewed by detectives, and taken to the Calhoun County Jail, where he is being held on an open murder charge.
No further information will be released at this time.
