Battle Creek firefighters extinguish Big Boy Restaurant fire; no injuries reported

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – On Thursday, July 3, at 10:20 a.m., the Battle Creek Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at Big Boy Restaurant on West Columbia Avenue.
Car 3 arrived to find active fire and heavy smoke coming from the rear of the building. Restaurant staff were evacuating all occupants at the time.
Rescue 6 deployed a handline to quickly extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading throughout the business. Engine 3 conducted a search for remaining occupants, while Engine 1 and Engine 5 provided support operations. Crews then ventilated the structure to remove smoke.
LifeCare Ambulance responded to the scene, and Bedford Township Fire Department assisted with their aerial apparatus.
No injuries were reported. The fire originated in a rear storage area and remains under investigation by the fire marshal.
The business will be temporarily closed while repairs are completed.
