More information: The Battle Creek Fire Department was dispatched to a reported residential structure fire at 125 N. Wabash Ave. Rescue 2 and Car 3 arrived within three minutes to find fire showing from the front of the two-story home.

Rescue 2 quickly extended a hose line for fire attack and performed a search of the first floor of the home. Engine 1 arrived soon after to begin a search of the home's second floor and to check for fire extension. Engine 3, Engine 4, Engine 5, and Rescue 6 assisted with fire attack and search of the home.

Though the fire was under control within 10 minutes, the fire had extended into the home's attic, requiring extensive overhaul. The home's sole occupant was taken out of the structure upon the BCFD's arrival; however, they were treated on scene by LifeCare Ambulance for minor burns. No additional injuries were reported.

The BCFD Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire, which appears to be accidental.
