BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – The Battle Creek Fire Department and LifeCare Ambulance responded to a residential structure fire in the 100 block of North Hinman Avenue shortly after 2:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 31.

Engine 5 arrived to find a two-story home fully involved, with fire throughout the structure and extending through the roof. No one was home at the time of the fire.

Because of the size of the fire, firefighters attacked it from outside the home using specialized equipment capable of delivering large amounts of water. Additional personnel from Engine 4, Engine 3, Rescue 2, Truck 1 and Rescue 6 assisted at the scene, while Car 3 established command.

The fire was extinguished in just over an hour. No injuries were reported. The home was declared a total loss.

The Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
