BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will be temporarily closing the intersection of Hamblin Avenue and Washington Avenue beginning Monday, May 4.

This temporary intersection closure will result in Hamblin Avenue being temporarily closed, from South Kendall Street to McCamly Street South. The road closure is needed to allow for MDOT contractor crews to complete demolition of the Washington Avenue bridge over the Battle Creek River.

A detour route will be posted on South Kendall Street, Michigan Avenue, and Hamblin Avenue. Neighbors traveling in this area are reminded to be aware of crews and equipment, and to plan extra time when navigating this area.

This closure is in addition to the ongoing road closure along South Washington Avenue, from Michigan Avenue to West Dickman Road, as part of MDOT's rebuilding project of the Washington Avenue bridge. The project includes bridge rebuilding and repairs, approach replacement, drainage improvements, guardrail replacement, signal work, water main relocation, and pavement markings.

Crews expect to begin this bridge demolition work Monday, May 4, and expect to be completed by Monday, June 1, with the temporary road closure along Hamblin Avenue ending then, as well. Work hours will generally be from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. during this work.
