Important update: Post-Franklin water main, lead service line work rescheduled

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — The City of Battle Creek is delaying the start of water main and lead service line replacement work in the Post-Franklin neighborhood by one week. Crews were originally scheduled to begin work on Monday, March 16. However, the project contractor, Hoffman Bros., is currently assisting with tornado cleanup efforts in Union City following last week’s deadly storm.
The city knows our community would want to support Union City at this moment and appreciates residents’ patience while the contractor assists with recovery work.
Work is now scheduled to begin on Monday, March 23.
Work
This project will replace aging watermains, remove lead and galvanized service lines, and rebuild streets and sidewalks.
Location
Work will begin on several streets in the Post Addition neighborhood. The contractor will start on Lathrop Avenue from Main Street to Academy Street, Post Avenue from Main Street to Caine Street, and Douglas Street from Cliff Street to Post Avenue.
Project schedule
Work will take place over two construction seasons, with most work completed in 2026.
-
2026: Approximately 75% of work completed by Oct. 31, 2026
-
2027: Remaining work completed in the spring and summer
-
Construction hours: Monday–Friday, 7 a.m.–6 p.m. Occasional Saturday work may occur.
Neighbors who have not yet returned their Lead Service Consent Form are encouraged to do so as soon as possible. Crews cannot reconnect lead or galvanized service lines to the new water main, and water service may be interrupted for properties without a completed form once work reaches each block.
For other questions, or to request a new consent form, please contact the City at 269.966.3311.
