Battle Creek police arrest suspect in threat toward local school
BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – Battle Creek police have arrested a 57-year-old Galesburg man after he made violent threats toward a Battle Creek-area school and its students on a social media platform.
Officers, with assistance from the Michigan State Police, contacted the suspect at his residence Thursday, Feb. 19, and took him into custody on a charge of making threats to commit violence against students with a firearm.
Police were first notified of the threat Wednesday, Feb. 18, after community members saw the post online and reported it. The message referenced a protest planned by a student organization at the school. Battle Creek police immediately began investigating and quickly identified the suspect.
The investigation into this case is now concluded. The department will continue working with school administration to ensure the safety of all students and staff.
