BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – The Battle Creek Fire Department and LifeCare Ambulance were dispatched to the report of a kitchen fire in a Lincoln Boulevard home, shortly after 8 p.m. yesterday, Tuesday, Dec. 2.

The BCFD's Rescue 6, Squad 6, and Car 3 arrived to find heavy smoke conditions in the home, and a fire on the stove that had spread into the cabinets above the stove. Rescue 6 stretched a hose line to extinguish the fire on the stove and in the cabinets. Engine 4 found that the fire had spread into the attic and extinguished all hidden hot spots. Squad 6 and Truck 1 provided ventilation and other support functions.

Fortunately, there were no injuries reported during this incident. The cause of the fire appeared to be accidental activation of an electric range burner, igniting nearby combustibles.
