Reminder: Republic Services yard waste pickups end this week for 2025 season

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — Although we're still battling to get completely dug out from our weekend snowstorm, we want to remind our neighbors that this week is the last week for Republic Services yard waste pickups for the 2025 season!
Republic will complete a final pickup of yard waste, on neighbors' regular pickup days, this week - Monday, Dec. 1, through Friday, Dec. 5.
As a save-the-date, Republic's yard waste pickup service will start back up for the 2026 season on Monday, April 6.
In the meantime, once Republic's yard waste pickup service ends on Friday, Dec. 5, neighbors still have the following methods for disposing of yard waste (once the snow melts away):
- Hire a private contractor to collect your leaves; many will provide free estimates.
- Mow them with your lawn mower and leave them as a natural mulch for your lawn.
- Compost them in a corner of your yard.
- Haul them in bulk to the city’s residential drop-off compost site, Brice Pit:
- Location: 715 W. River Road. Take Bedford Road south to River, turn right (just past Budget Self-Storage). Brice Pit is approximately a quarter-mile down, on the left.
- Current hours: 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday; closed Sunday/holidays. (Please note that weather events requiring staff cleanup may delay the gates opening. Again, no plastic bags, please, and no contractor dumping.)
As a general reminder, burning leaves within city limits is prohibited, even with a burn permit.
