Temporary four-way stop, periodic lane shifts at intersection of Columbia and Helmer during signal work Oct. 27-29

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) contractor crews will complete signal maintenance at the intersection of Columbia Avenue and Helmer Road, resulting in traffic changes at the intersection, beginning tomorrow, Monday, Oct. 27.

This signal maintenance work includes the replacement of the traffic signal cabinet and implementation of left turn phasing at the intersection.

The following traffic changes will occur at the intersection during this work:

  • The traffic signal at the intersection of West Columbia Avenue and Helmer Road South will be temporarily shut down at times during this work, and the intersection will operate as a four-way stop.
  • There will also be periodic lane shifts at the intersection during work hours.


Neighbors and motorists should follow all traffic control measures, and are reminded to be aware of crews and equipment while traveling in the area.

Crews plan to begin this signal maintenance work on Monday, Oct. 27, and expect to be completed with the project by Wednesday, Oct. 29, weather permitting. Work hours will generally be 7 a.m.-7 p.m. daily.
