MLK Jr. Rec. Center Grand Opening & Proposed Membership Info.
🎉 We’re excited to officially announce the Grand Opening Celebration of the Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center on Friday, January 16, 2026, from 4–8 PM! This milestone event opens the entire facility, including indoor spaces, outdoor playgrounds, and surrounding grounds, to the community for full use.
We also want to clear up some confusion we’ve seen online and heard during last night’s City Commission meeting regarding facility access and the membership proposal 👇
- You do NOT have to pay to walk in the door.
- You do NOT have to pay to sit inside and watch your kids (unless you’re attending a game or tournament).
- Outdoor amenities are FREE to use.
- ALL youth under 18 receive FREE access to the entire center.
A full breakdown of the proposed membership costs, along with an easy-to-read access chart (showing what’s free and what would require a membership or program fee), is available on our website ➡️ www.panamacity.gov/m/newsflash/home/detail/741
🗣️ Community Input Matters:
Opportunities for residents to share their thoughts, concerns and ideas will be available through upcoming community meetings scheduled for January. Specific dates and times are still being finalized and will be communicated broadly once confirmed.
