Town of Colonie Notification

From the Superintendent of the Latham Water District

Loss of pressure in the Town of Colonie

This Boil Water Notice applies to residents and businesses of the

Town of Colonie and Village of Colonie.

BOIL YOUR WATER BEFORE USING

Bring tap water to a rolling boil, boil for one minute, and cool before using. Or use bottled water certified for sale by the New York State Department of Health. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth, and preparing food until further notice.

What Happened?

At approximately 8:00 a.m. on January 19, 2026, a 24-inch water transmission main broke in the vicinity of 31 British American Boulevard. At approximately 9:30 a.m., sections of the water distribution system began to lose pressure. When water mains lose pressure, there is an increased risk that untreated water and harmful microbes may enter the water system.

Harmful microbes in drinking water can cause diarrhea, cramps, nausea, headaches, or other symptoms and may pose a special health risk for infants, some elderly, and people with severely compromised immune systems. But these symptoms are not just caused by microbes in drinking water. If you experience any of these symptoms and they persist, you should seek medical advice.

What is being done?

Latham Water District repair crews are working to shut down and isolate the affected section of the 24- inch water transmission main. Once isolated, system pressures are expected to rebuild and return to normal. In addition, Latham Water District staff have activated the emergency interconnect with the City of Albany to assist in restoring system pressure. After repairs are completed, Latham Water District will collect bacteriological samples throughout the Town to verify water quality and ensure the water is safe to drink.

Once the repair is made, it is likely that you will need to boil water for the next 2 days. You will be informed when tests confirm that you no longer need to boil your water.
