What’s Happening at City Hall
Since the fire, City staff has been working around the clock to protect important records and equipment, move and preserve salvageable workspace materials, clean and stabilize affected work areas, identify and set up temporary work locations in minimally impacted areas or off-site locations, develop plans to safely resume in-person public services, and prepare for the larger restoration period ahead.
Although the fire was contained to a small area, the fire suppression sprinkler system did its job and prevented the fire from spreading further. Two sprinkler heads were activated in response to the fire which ran for nearly 30 minutes, releasing thousands of gallons of water and causing significant damage throughout the building.
Every Department at City Hall experienced impacts in some capacity. Nearly all City Hall employees have temporarily relocated their workstations, whether to unaffected parts of the building or off-site locations. The damage will require extensive repairs including electrical work, drywall and ceiling replacement, recarpeting, and other infrastructure restoration throughout much of the building.
What’s Next
We are actively developing a phased service restoration plan and evaluating temporary work locations to restore some level of in-person City Hall services starting next week. We will provide another update as soon as details are finalized.
