Spring Weed Abatement is Underway in Chino Hills

City of Chino Hills crews began our annual weed abatement program earlier this month, working proactively each day to help reduce fire risk and keep our community safe. Crews use a combination of tractor mowing, remote-control mowers, and hand crews to work their way through the City’s 3,000 acres of publicly-owned open space. This work is essential to creating a defensible buffer, or fuel modification zone, between homes and surrounding open space.

Work starts on both ends of Chino Hills, at the north near Scenic Ridge Drive, and the south near Butterfield Ranch, and crews work their way through the City until they meet in the middle at neighborhoods near Rancho Hills Drive. During this time, you may see or hear City crews and equipment operating near neighborhoods as they clear and cut vegetation.

The City aims to complete the first pass of this work by summer of each year. We appreciate your patience as crews work throughout our community to keep Chino Hills safe and beautiful. For questions, please contact the Public Works Department at (909) 364-2800.
