Winter Weather Operations - January 25, 2026

❄️ St. Joseph County Winter Weather Operations Update – January 25, 2026

While we didn’t see the kind of snowfall some of Southern Indiana dealt with during this event (we already got the amount that they did and more…), we are still dealing with nuisance lake-effect snow that looks like it will hang around for the next few days. There will also be continued drifting, especially on north–south roads next to open fields.

The bitter cold isn’t going anywhere anytime soon either. These temperatures make salt much less effective and are also tough on equipment. When it gets this cold, things tend to break—especially plow trucks. Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve had a very large amount of our trucks down at times, and our highway mechanics have been working nonstop to get them repaired and back on the road.

Our night shift is currently out working, and day shift will be coming in early tomorrow morning to address main and secondary roads where needed and to continue working in subdivisions.
Please drive carefully this week. With salt not working as well in these forecasted temperatures, roads will be slick in some locations. Give yourself extra time, slow down, and use caution while you’re out traveling.

As always, thank you for your continued cooperation and support. Stay safe out there.
