Town of Palm Beach Alerts and News Releases

Hurricane Milton Update #5

10/9/2024 - 12:20 PM
Palm Beach County is still under a Tropical Storm Warning.  Town officials continue to monitor the storm’s track and intensity closely. Regardless of the landfall location, hazardous conditions will extend well away from the system's center.

The center of Hurricane Milton was located near latitude 25.8 North and longitude 84.3 West. Milton is moving toward the northeast near 17 mph (28 km/h). A northwestward motion with some decrease in forward speed is expected this evening. A turn toward the east-northeast and east is expected on Thursday and Friday. On the forecast track, the center of Milton will move across the Eastern Gulf of Mexico today and move off the East Coast of Florida over the Atlantic Ocean on Thursday.

Town of Palm Beach can expect deteriorating weather conditions with potentially strong winds (39-73 mph) and heavy rains beginning Wednesday. Residents should avoid the roadways if possible. Please do not drive into standing water.

While it is unlikely that checkpoints will become necessary for Hurricane Milton, timely and proactive Re-Entry List applications are still important. The Palm Beach Police Department is continuing to accept Re-Entry List applications via email. Please note that due to storm response procedures and assignments, it is possible the Re-Entry List application may not be processed timely if received within two days before a storm's landfall.
