Town of Palm Beach Alerts and News Releases

Hurricane Milton #4

10/8/2024 - 4:54 PM
Palm Beach County is still under a Tropical Storm Warning.  Town officials continue to closely monitor the storm’s track and intensity.  Regardless of the landfall location, hazardous conditions will extend well away from the system's center.

The eye of Hurricane Milton was located near latitude 22.7 north, longitude 87.5 west. Although Milton has been wobbling during the past few hours, its longer-term motion is towards the east-northeast near 9mph (13 km/h). A turn toward the northeast with an increase in forward speed is expected to begin later today and continue through Thursday. On the forecast track, the center of Milton will move across the Eastern Gulf of Mexico, approach the west central coast of Florida on Wednesday night, and move east-northeast across Central Florida through Thursday.

Town of Palm Beach Residents can expect deteriorating weather conditions with strong winds (39-73 mph) and heavy rains beginning Wednesday. Residents should avoid the roadways if possible. Please do not drive into standing water.

While it is unlikely that checkpoints will become necessary for Hurricane Milton, timely and proactive Re-entry List Applications are still important. The Palm Beach Police Department continues to accept Re-entry List Applications via email. Please note that due to storm response procedures and assignments, it is possible the Re-entry List Applications may not be processed timely if received within two days before a storm's landfall.
