Karl “Corky” Soderstrom Obituary & Funeral Parking Restrictions for Monday, March 10, 2025 10:30AM

Karl Arthur Soderstrom was born in Yonkers, New York to Karl Elof and Pauline Kosko Soderstrom on May 21, 1941. Known to his friends as Corky, he graduated from Hastings High School in the class of 1959 and proceeded to the Teterboro School of Aeronautics, where his passion for aviation and mechanical mind combined to earn him both a private pilot license and his dream job as a jet mechanic at American Airlines.
Following his work in aviation, Corky's love of helping others led him into law enforcement. He joined the Hastings-on-Hudson Police Department in 1965. He was injured in the line of duty in 1978, received many commendations, and helped design the department uniform patch. He retired as a sergeant in 1987. During his time on the force, Corky became a firearms instructor and proved a champion shooter, winning competitions around Westchester County and New York State.
Corky also proudly served his community as a volunteer firefighter in the Hastings Fire Department and later found great meaning in his work as an EMT in the volunteer ambulance corps. He was honored with the EMS Volunteer of the Year award in 2011.
Corky is survived by his dear wife Kathleen, daughter Kimberly, grandson Xavier, and iconic candy-apple red 1964 Chevy Super Sport Impala convertible.
In passing, Corky takes with him the love of his many treasured friends and is reunited in eternity with his beloved sons Karl and Kirk.
