Pedestrian/Drivers Safety Pilot Program Farragut Middle School/Hastings High School Complex

HHS TRAFFIC VIDEO

August 28, 2026

Dear Residents,

Village Officials, the Police Department, and the School District are working together to improve pedestrian safety around the Farragut Middle School/Hastings High School Complex. Please know several new traffic and student drop-off procedures are being implemented around the Farragut Middle School and Hastings High School complex. These procedures will be used for morning drop-offs and afternoon pick-ups.

These changes are a pilot program intended to improve traffic flow and, most importantly, enhance pedestrian safety for our students and teachers during the busy morning arrival and afternoon dismissal periods. The changes will be used during September and October and then reevaluated.

We ask for your cooperation and patience as everyone becomes familiar with these new procedures.

New Drop-Off Zone #1 – Farragut Avenue Southbound
A new student drop-off zone has been established on southbound Farragut Avenue, between Hillside Avenue and Olinda Avenue.
Residents are asked, in lieu of turning left onto Hillside Avenue, to veer right and drop students off in this designated area. Students may then walk to the intersection of Farragut Avenue and Olinda Avenue and cross the street with the assistance of the crossing guard. After dropping off, drivers can proceed to the intersection of Farragut Avenue and Olinda Avenue, then turn right onto Olinda Avenue to leave the area.

Please note: Hillside Avenue is not a designated drop-off zone.

DROP OFF ZONE 1

New Drop-Off Zone #2 – Farragut Avenue Northbound
A second student drop-off zone has been established on Farragut Avenue northbound, inside the island and prior to the intersection of Mt. Hope Boulevard.
Students may then walk to the intersection of Farragut Avenue and Mt. Hope Blvd and cross the street with the assistance of the crossing guard.
After dropping off students, motorists may safely yield and merge back onto Farragut Avenue northbound.

Please note: Mt. Hope Boulevard is not a drop-off zone.

Drop-Off Zone # 3 Farragut Avenue, inside the island opposite Farragut Middle School
This Drop-Off Zone has been in place and will continue to be used.
