‘Safe Streets for All’ Open House Set for August 28

The City of Sanford and Central Pines Regional Council will host a drop-in open house on Thursday, August 28, for the public to learn more about the Safe Streets for All Safety Action Plan and share feedback to improve road safety.

Community members can stop by the Buggy Conference Room any time between 12 p.m. and 7 p.m. to discuss the plan, view information boards and maps, and share their thoughts on the area’s street safety needs.

The conference room is located on the first floor of the Buggy Company Building at 115 Chatham Street in Sanford. Attendees should enter the building from the Chatham Street Parking Lot.

This open house will be the third in-person public engagement opportunity for the Safety Action Plan. The first input session was held on July 12, 2025, at the Sanford Farmers’ Market. The second was on August 2, 2025, during the Sanford Multicultural Celebration at Kiwanis Family Park.

The Safety Action Plan is a joint effort by Lee County, the City of Sanford, the Town of Broadway, and the Central Pines Regional Council to reduce traffic-related fatalities and serious injuries across the region. The effort is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Safe Streets and Roads for All Grant Program.

As part of this initiative, the team has added the Safe Streets for All project to its Projects Hub at www.sanfordnc.net/safe-streets. From the hub, the public can access a survey that incorporates an interactive map that allows respondents to highlight areas that feel unsafe or need improvement.
