Waterville, ME - Traffic Advisory Sanger / Boutelle / Colonial
A message from Kennebec Water District:
The Kennebec Water District (KWD) will be upgrading the existing water mains along Sanger Avenue, Boutelle Avenue and Colonial Street in Waterville starting on or around Monday May 18th. The project is expected to be completed by the end of November 2026. Through a competitive bid process Eastwood Contractors, located in Brewer, was selected as the contractor to complete this project. We anticipate replacing additional water mains on Edwards Street, Brook Street and Hillside Avenue as budget allows.
The existing water mains on these streets are generally more than 100 years old and are undersized for the water demands in the area. This project will replace the existing water mains with new properly sized pipes which are expected to provide reliable service over the next 100+ years.
During construction, an above ground temporary water system will be constructed to provide water to customers in the project area. These above ground pipes will be clearly marked, however anyone traveling in the area should be mindful and watch for signs and barricades marking their location. Water service will continue to feed through existing service lines and be metered as normal throughout the duration of construction.
Traffic impacts are unavoidable due to the nature of the work and large number of properties on the streets. KWD, Eastwood Construction, and the City of Waterville have developed a traffic control plan to facilitate traffic flow through the project area while maintaining safe working conditions for the construction crews. During work on each street that street will be closed to local traffic only. Your patience and safe driving habits while traveling through the area are appreciated.
