Middletown Alerts
Snow Alert - State of Emergency - No Street Parking
Message from Mayor Joseph DeStefano & Council President Miguel Rodrigues
Residents of the City of Middletown,
Due to a major winter storm expected to begin around 6:00 AM on Sunday and continue into Monday Afternoon, we are preparing for heavy snowfall, strong wind gusts, and dangerous conditions throughout the city.
After consultation with Commissioner of Public Works Jacob Tawil, a State of Emergency is hereby declared:
🕚 Begins: Sunday at 11:00 AM
🕛 Ends: Tuesday at 5 AM
🚨 Emergency Regulations:
- No parking on any city streets
- Parking Lot time limits and Permit Requirements in city-owned lots are waived during the emergency period until Tuesday at 12 PM (noon)- Residents with off street parking difficulties are encouraged to take advantage of these lots
- Vehicles left on streets will be ticketed and towed
During our last major storm, 9 vehicles were towed and many more were ticketed, despite police placing notices on cars in advance. We do not want a repeat of that situation, but these rules must be enforced for public safety and the safety of our workers.
This storm is projected to produce significant snow accumulation. Plows will make multiple passes in all neighborhoods. Please understand:
- Plows cannot lift blades at driveways
- If you shovel early, you may need to shovel again
- Crews will continue pushing snow back after the storm to widen roads and keep them safe
- This is necessary for emergency vehicle access for police, fire, and ambulance services
We understand the frustration of having snow pushed back onto sidewalks and driveways — but there is simply nowhere else for the snow to go. This work is being done for the safety of your families and your neighborhoods.
⚠️ Safety Reminders:
- Stay off the roads if possible
- Stock up on essentials
- Be prepared for possible power outages, as occurred during the last major storm
- Check on your neighbors, especially seniors and vulnerable residents
- After the storm, if possible, clear snow around fire hydrants — city crews and the fire department will be doing the same, but faster access can save lives
Our DPW crews, emergency services, and city employees will be working around the clock to keep Middletown safe and passable for emergency response.
Please cooperate with these emergency measures. They are necessary to protect the public and those working to protect you.
Stay safe, take care of one another, and spend this time with your families.
Our crews will do everything possible to keep our city safe.
Subject to change. Please continue to monitor city social media for updates
State of Emergency will be posted on all city social media & web site and filed with Orange County
