Mayor’s Message - April 01, 2026

Mayor’s Message – April 1, 2026

This time of year brings a meaningful convergence of traditions centered on reflection, community, and shared values. This evening, many of our neighbors will observe the first night of Passover, a sacred holiday that commemorates the journey from hardship to freedom and invites families and friends to gather in reflection and tradition. This Sunday, many in our community will celebrate Easter, marking a season of renewal and hope. To all who observe, I wish you a joyful and peaceful holiday, and hope this season offers time for connection, reflection, and togetherness.

Transgender Day of Visibility

On March 31, Irvington joined communities across the country in recognizing Transgender Day of Visibility, celebrating the lives and contributions of transgender and nonbinary individuals while raising awareness of the challenges they continue to face. In recognition of this important day, the Village clock tower was illuminated pink and blue, serving as a visible reminder of Irvington’s commitment to inclusivity, dignity, and respect for all.

Investing in Safer, More Connected Streets

I am pleased to share that Irvington has been awarded $300,000 through Westchester County’s Complete Streets Grant program to support the installation of new sidewalks along South Buckhout Road and South Astor Street. This funding advances our ongoing efforts to improve pedestrian safety and connectivity throughout the Village.

This award builds upon a significant investment already secured through the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, which has selected Irvington to receive a $550,000 grant through its Climate Smart Communities program.

Expanding Electric Vehicle Infrastructure

Irvington continues to make progress toward a more sustainable future with the installation of four new electric vehicle charging stations at Scenic Hudson Park. These stations are expected to be operational on Monday and were made possible through a Westchester County grant and a rebate program from Con Edison.

These parking spaces will be designated as EV-preferred, meaning they prioritize electric vehicles but remain available to all when needed, helping balance access and flexibility.

Save the Date: Matthiessen Park Stage Ribbon Cutting

Please save the date for May 9, when the Village will host a ribbon cutting for the new stage at Matthiessen Park. This addition will enhance our ability to host performances and community events in one of Irvington’s most scenic public spaces. More details to come.

Summer Jazz Series at Matthiessen Park

The Village is also pleased to announce a new partnership with Jazz Forum Arts to host a seven-concert summer jazz series at the Matthiessen Park Stage. Beginning in July 2026, performances will take place on Thursday evenings, bringing world-class jazz to our waterfront.

This series continues a cherished local tradition in a new setting here in Irvington. For more information, please visit:

Irvington is enriched by the diversity of its residents and traditions. During this season, I encourage everyone to take time to connect with loved ones and reflect on what brings us together.

As always, I am grateful for the spirit of inclusivity, respect, and neighborliness that defines our community.

Sincerely,
Mayor Arlene Burgos
