Carbondale Police Press Release– Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm

CARBONDALE – On May 25, 2025, at 7:52 p.m., City of Carbondale police officers responded to the 700 block of North Billy Bryan Street for a report of shots fired. Officers learned that a passenger or passengers in a white Chevrolet Impala fired shots in the area resulting in several of the shots striking a residence in the process. The vehicle fled the area prior to the officers’ arrival. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

During the investigation, officers identified a suspect as a 15-year-old juvenile from Murphysboro. Detectives applied for and were granted a Jackson County Arrest Warrant for a juvenile male for Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm and Unlawful Use of a Weapon. On May 28, 2025, the juvenile was located and arrested by detectives without incident. The juvenile was incarcerated in a juvenile detention facility pending a court appearance.  In accordance with the Illinois Juvenile Justice Act, the identity of the juvenile suspect is not being released.
