City of Carbondale to Begin Posting for Noxious Growth Violations Starting Week of April 14, 2025

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CARBONDALE -

Carbondale, IL – The City of Carbondale will begin posting notices for properties in violation of the Noxious Growth Ordinance, CCRC 11.4.1, beginning the week of April 14, 2025. The ordinance requires property owners to maintain their yards free of noxious weeds/grass and other tall, unsightly vegetation that may pose a public health or safety concern.

Under this ordinance, property owners have a responsibility to keep their yards clear of overgrown weeds/grass, including invasive species that can damage the environment. Properties found to be in violation will receive a posted notice outlining corrective actions and timelines for compliance.

This proactive initiative is designed to maintain the aesthetic and environmental health of the community and ensure safe and pleasant living spaces for all residents. Residents who receive a notice of violation are encouraged to take immediate action to bring their property into compliance to avoid further penalties or city intervention.
