CARBONDALE- On August 29, 2026, at approximately 3:54 p.m., City of Carbondale Police Officers were dispatched to the 500 block of South Forest after receiving multiple 911 reports of shots fired in the area. Upon arrival, officers determined that the individual or individuals involved had left the scene prior to police arrival.  There were no reported injuries.  Officers found damage to one residence in the area.  

During the course of the investigation, officers located a male subject in the area who matched witness descriptions of the suspect. Following a brief foot pursuit, the individual was taken into custody, and a firearm was recovered from 19‑year‑old Lalyn Frais from Carbondale. 

Frais has been charged with Aggravated Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Resisting a Peace Officer. He was transported to the Jackson County Jail, where he remains incarcerated pending a detention hearing.
