CARBONDALE – On May 13, 2026, at 3:46 a.m., City of Carbondale Police Officers responded to the 700 block of South Lewis Lane in reference to a report of shots fired.  Officers arrived and located a victim with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.  This victim received medical treatment on scene. Officers recovered two discarded firearms from the scene and found that the property had been damaged during the incident. They also found that the incident occurred during a quarrel between known associates. The investigation then led the Carbondale Police Department’s Special Response Team (SRT), with assistance from members of the Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System (ILEAS), to execute a search warrant in the 400 block of South Lake Heights. A Civic Alert was put out while officers were in the 400 block of South Lake Heights.
