CARBONDALE –  On October 23, 2025, at 8:55 p.m., City of Carbondale Police Officers responded to the 400 block of North Oakland Street for a report of a dog being abused.  Officers learned from a witness that the suspect, Remus R. Williams, age 38 of Carbondale, struck his dog multiple times with a stick. During the investigation, the officers found the dog injured and removed the animal from the residence. The Carbondale Animal Control Officer took the dog to a local veterinarian, where they learned the dog’s injuries were not consistent with Williams’ explanations, but instead, consistent with those of abuse. Officers returned to the residence and arrested Williams for Cruel Treatment of Animals and Animal Torture. Williams was incarcerated at the Jackson County Jail pending a bond hearing.  Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact the police department at the numbers listed below.
