New Energy Rates from Ameren vs. Homefield Energy- Information from AGE (Affordable Gas & Electric Company) on Aggregation Program and Options for Customers

The City of Carbondale participates in an electric aggregation buying group with 94 other communities known as the Southern Illinois Aggregation Partnership (SIAP), the aim of which is to provide consistent energy rates for the benefit of the customer. As energy rates from Ameren have once again fallen lower than energy rates with Homefield Energy, the following information has been communicated from AGE, LLC (Affordable Gas & Electric Company) to communities participating in the aggregation group.
From AGE:
Ameren Illinois has announced lower electric rates for the non-summer period of October 2025 through May 2026. Ameren’s new price-to-compare comes in at $0.08402/kWh, which is less than the electric aggregation rate with Homefield Energy of $0.11789/kWh, which is fixed through May 2026. Ameren’s summer price-to-compare had been $0.1218/kWh.
Residents currently participating in our community’s electric aggregation program with Homefield Energy are reminded that they may opt-out of the program at anytime and without penalty. To opt out, participants should call Homefield Energy at 866-694-1262. It is advised to have your 10-digit Ameren account number when calling to opt-out.
Residents who opt out of the electric aggregation program will be returned to Ameren for their electric supply service on the next available meter reading date for their account. A confirmation letter will also be mailed by Ameren once the drop from the program has been finalized. This letter from Ameren will communicate that you have 60 days to select a new electric supplier, if you wish. If no supplier is selected within 60 days then Ameren IL will continue to be your electric supplier for 10 additional months before you are eligible to select a retail electric supplier again.
We are considering all options regarding the electric aggregation program beyond the current contract and will communicate updates as they develop. The goal for this program remains to attempt to save residents money on their power bills and the penalty free opt-out ability is crucial to allowing residents flexibility to take lower rates elsewhere when available.
