FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: City of Casa Grande Celebrates Upgrades to Disc Golf Course at Newly Renamed Frank Pratt Park

Casa Grande, AZ – The City of Casa Grande Community Services Department is thrilled to announce the completion of significant upgrades to the city’s popular disc golf course, located at the newly renamed Frank Pratt Park. These enhancements underscore the city’s ongoing commitment to enriching recreational opportunities and promoting a healthy, active lifestyle for residents and visitors alike.

Frank Pratt Park, formerly known as College Park, has been renamed in honor of the late Franklin M. "Frank" Pratt, a native of Pinal County who resided in Casa Grande for 36 years. Mr. Pratt, who operated a swimming pool construction business with his son, Bryan, was deeply engaged in the community, volunteering with organizations such as Rotary, Red Cross, and the Casa Grande Chamber of Commerce.

As a dedicated public servant, Mr. Pratt represented the region in the State House and Senate for 13 years, championing legislation in areas such as energy, healthcare, education, and natural resources. He lived in the neighborhood for many years and spent considerable time in the park that now bears his name. The renaming effort was spearheaded by the Casa Grande Daybreak Rotary Club and approved by city council following a public process.

The upgrades to the disc golf course represent a $25,000 investment through the city’s FY 2025 Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) process. Key enhancements include:

  • New concrete tee boxes for improved playability and durability.
  • Updated signage at each hole for better navigation and clarity.
  • Added yardage markers to enhance the player experience.

The 9-hole course can also expand to 18 holes for tournaments or leagues, making it a more versatile venue for local and visiting players. These upgrades aim to provide a more enjoyable and challenging experience for disc golf enthusiasts of all skill levels, positioning Casa Grande as a hub for this growing sport.

What is Disc Golf?

Disc golf is a fun, inexpensive, and inclusive sport played much like traditional golf, but with flying discs instead of balls and clubs. It offers great physical and mental health benefits, including conditioning, aerobic exercise, and mental stimulation. It’s estimated that 8 to 12 million Americans have played disc golf, with over half a million playing regularly. For those new to the sport, the Casa Grande Library at 449 N. Drylake provides discs available for checkout—just like a library book!

Join Us for the Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony

The city invites the community to celebrate these upgrades at a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, January 28th, at 10:00 a.m. at Frank Pratt Park, located at 250 E. Viola St., Casa Grande, AZ 85122. The ceremony will include disc-throwing demonstrations, offering attendees a chance to see the revitalized course in action and try out the sport themselves.

Honoring Frank Pratt’s Legacy

The renaming of the park and these improvements honor Frank Pratt’s legacy of dedication to Casa Grande. His commitment to community service, education, and collaboration exemplifies the values that continue to shape our city today.
