CASA GRANDE, Ariz. — The City of Casa Grande is calling on residents, businesses, schools, churches, civic organizations, and community groups to volunteer and serve their community during the 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance on Saturday, September 26, from 7:30 to 11:00 a.m. at Peart Park, 350 E. 6th Street.

Volunteers are needed to help with cleanup, beautification and service projects throughout Casa Grande. Community members of all ages and abilities are encouraged to participate, with a variety of projects available.

“This is an opportunity for Casa Grande to come together and make a difference,” said Mayor Lisa Fitzgibbons. “We invite our residents, businesses, schools, churches and community organizations to join us. Whether you have an hour, a team, or just a willingness to help, your service makes our community stronger.”

Volunteers Needed

Volunteers can choose from a variety of service opportunities, including:

• Park cleanup and litter removal
• Painting City structures
• Landscaping and beautification projects
• Indoor service projects for volunteers who prefer to stay out of the heat
• Creating cards and letters of appreciation for local first responders and military members serving overseas
• Blood donation

Last year, more than 780 volunteers completed 32 service projects throughout Casa Grande. Register to volunteer at www.casagrandeaz.gov/volunteer to view available projects and sign up.

Start the Day at Peart Park

Volunteers should arrive at 7:30 a.m. at Peart Park for opening remarks from Mayor Lisa Fitzgibbons and youth leaders from across the community before heading to their service projects.

Volunteers are encouraged to bring:

• Water
• Gloves
• Sunscreen
• A hat and sunglasses
• A blanket or lawn chair for the opening ceremony

Trash bags will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, but volunteers are encouraged to bring their own when possible.

A free hot dog lunch will be provided for volunteers following the cleanup, beginning at approximately 10 a.m.

Remembering Through Service

The 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance provides an opportunity to honor the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, by turning remembrance into meaningful service.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001. In Casa Grande, the anniversary will be observed through service, reflection, and community connection.

Participants are encouraged to wear red, white, and blue. Photographers will be on site documenting the day's service activities.
