SANTA ROSA MAN ARRESTED FOR MULTIPLE WEAPONS VIOLATIONS
On Saturday June 28, 2025, at 3:46p.m., the Santa Rosa Police Department was notified of an “explosion” that reportedly occurred earlier in the morning on the 300 block of Harvest Lane. Through an intensive and extensive investigation, Officers and Detectives learned the following:Jonathan StJern is a 42-year-old Santa Rosa resident. In the early morning hours of Saturday June 28, 2025, while inside his bedroom at his apartment on the 300 block of Harvest Lane, he accidentally discharged a shotgun he personally modified and the blast went through a bedroom wall and into an occupied adjacent room of the same apartment. No one was injured. Officers learned StJern was on probation through Sonoma County with the specific term to not possess weapons. His probation terms allowed warrantless search and seizure by law enforcement.
At approximately 6:00 p.m., Santa Rosa Police Officers responded to the 300 block of Harvest Lane. Residents inside surrounding apartments were cooperative with officers and evacuated temporarily while officers attempted to contact StJern. Officers initially called into the residence and spoke with a roommate. While doing so, StJern ran out the rear of the residence, but was quickly apprehended by Officers that had staged there in case he fled. StJern did resist being arrested and was taken into custody without injury to himself or officers. He was in possession of an unconventional homemade 9mm pistol at the time of his arrest.
Prior to making entry on the probation search, Officers successfully deployed an interior drone to search the residence for additional subjects. Utilizing a drone in this manner provides situational awareness and enhances the safety of everyone involved, especially in cases where there’s information firearms are present. After utilizing the drone, Officers entered and secured the residence. Police Canine Ghost (who is a 3-year-old Belgian Malinois and specifically trained for firearm detection) and his handler responded to the scene. Ghost alerted to different areas of the apartment for officers to search. While searching the residence, Officers located a grenade. The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad responded to the scene. The grenade was determined to be inert and was recovered by the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad.
Upon search of the residence, some of the items Officers recovered were spent shotgun shells, nunchakus, a variety of knives, ammunition for both handguns and shotguns, multiple firearm weapon parts, makeshift weapons, and suspected fentanyl.
