Stabbing Incident on Mendocino Avenue – Suspect Arrested

On Monday, June 23, 2025, at approximately 11:48 PM, the Santa Rosa Police Department Communications Center received a 9-1-1 call reporting an assault in the 2300 block of Mendocino Avenue. The caller stated that an individual had been stabbed and that several bystanders were restraining the suspect.

Santa Rosa Police Officers, with assistance from Santa Rosa Junior College Police Officers, responded quickly to the scene. Upon arrival, officers detained the suspect and immediately rendered first aid to the victim. Personnel from Sonoma County Fire and Santa Rosa Fire also responded and transported the victim to Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. Due to the nature of the crime, the victim's information will not be released. 

Through interviews with multiple witnesses, officers learned that the suspect had attacked the victim from behind without provocation, using a pocketknife. Witnesses intervened quickly, restraining the suspect and successfully disarming him.

While the Santa Rosa Police Department commends the bravery and quick actions of those who intervened, we remind the public that attempting to physically intervene in violent incidents can be extremely dangerous and may result in additional injuries.

The suspect was identified as 37-year-old Robert Dean, a resident of New Mexico. He was arrested and booked into the Sonoma County Correctional Facility for Attempted Murder (Penal Code 664/187).
