SRPD News Release: Student Arrested After Bringing Loaded Firearm onto Montgomery High School Campus

Student Arrested After Bringing Loaded Firearm onto Montgomery High School Campus
On Thursday, May 15, 2025, at approximately 9:05 a.m., the Santa Rosa Police Department (SRPD) responded to Montgomery High School after school staff reported an unwanted individual on campus. A current student had been seen near the school’s flagpole accompanied by another male juvenile who was not recognized as a member of the school community.

When approached by school administrators, both individuals quickly walked away from the area. Student Safety Advisors (SSAs) attempted to make further contact, prompting the unidentified juvenile to flee the campus. Staff maintained visual contact and provided responding officers with updated information as the individual ran toward Montgomery Village.
SRPD officers arrived promptly and located the juvenile suspect attempting to hide behind a building in the area of Montgomery Village. He was safely detained without incident.

During the subsequent investigation, officers discovered that the juvenile, a 15-year-old male not enrolled in Santa Rosa City Schools, was carrying a loaded handgun and an additional loaded magazine inside his backpack.

SRPD and Montgomery High School staff worked in close coordination to thoroughly investigate the incident and ensure the safety of all students and staff. Officers determined that the firearm was in the sole possession of the juvenile. No other weapons were located, and there were no further threats to the campus.

The juvenile was transported to Juvenile Hall, where he was booked on the following charges:

  • PC 626.9(b): Possession of a loaded handgun on a school campus
  • PC 29610: Minor in possession of a handgun
  • PC 25400(a)(1): Possession of a concealed firearm
  • PC 25850(c)(6): Possession of an unregistered firearm

Due to the suspect’s age, his identity will not be released.

In response to the incident, additional administrators from Santa Rosa City Schools were deployed to Montgomery High School to provide support to students, staff, and school leadership.

We urge parents and guardians to speak with their children about the dangers and serious consequences of bringing weapons to school. Students and staff are reminded to report any safety concerns to a school official, trusted adult, law enforcement, or anonymously through the STOPit app.
