Officer Recovers Two Loaded Firearms During Traffic Stop:
 

On Saturday, May 3, 2025, at approximately 12:51 a.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a lighting equipment violation in the area of 4th Street and Leland Street in Santa Rosa.  During the stop, the officer could smell the odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle, as well as observed open containers of marijuana in plain view.

The driver, 20-year-old Santa Rosa resident, Daniel Hernandez Lara, and passenger, 19-year-old Santa Rosa resident, Alvaro Bernal, were detained without incident.  A probable cause search was conducted on Hernandez Lara, Bernal and the vehicle since both were under the age of 21 years and not legally able to possess marijuana.  Hernandez Lara and Bernal were wearing matching satchels across their chests.  Hernandez Lara was found in possession of a loaded .40 caliber Springfield XD-40 semi-automatic handgun in the satchel he was wearing.  The firearm was reported stolen out of Livermore from 2013.  Bernal was found in possession of a loaded, unregistered, unserialized 9mm P80 privately made firearm (PMF) in the satchel he was wearing.

Hernandez Lara was arrested and booked into the Sonoma County jail for the following charges:

25400(a)(1) PC: Possession of concealed firearm in vehicle                                             
25400(a)(2) PC: Possession of concealed firearm on person                                           
496(a) PC: Possession of a stolen firearm



Bernal was arrested and booked into the Sonoma County jail for the following charges:

25400(a)(1) PC: Possession of concealed firearm in vehicle                                            
25400(a)(2) PC: Possession of concealed firearm on person                                                        
25850(c)(6) PC: Possession of an unregistered firearm
