SRFD News Release: Landslide in East Santa Rosa
Landslide in East Santa Rosa
Shortly after 5 p.m., last night, Tuesday, February 4, the Sonoma County Fire District and Santa Rosa Fire Department responded to a report of a landslide into a home with two people trapped in the 3800 block of Deer Trail Court in unincorporated Santa Rosa. Firefighters from both agencies worked to safely remove the two residents that were uninjured and trapped inside a home.
Emergency crews determined that the slide originated on private property on the hillside above Deer Trail Court and within the city limits of Santa Rosa. The property where the slide originated is open space owned and maintained by Fountaingrove II Open Space Maintenance Association (OSMA).
Last night, Santa Rosa Fire Department and Emergency Management officials worked with the City of Santa Rosa’s Transportation and Public Works Department to coordinate a team that included a geotechnical engineer, and a geologist to evaluate the situation. A request was also made for a County of Sonoma building inspector for evaluation purposes. Three homes were evacuated and two were red tagged. Out of an abundance of caution, notifications regarding the slide were made to 17 homes in the general area of Deer Trail Court.
The City of Santa Rosa is in direct communication with the property representatives from the OSMA. Both the City and OSMA have engaged geotechnical engineers to evaluate the conditions. The city is directing that the slide mass be closely monitored, and a mitigation plan be developed. OSMA open space area has been restricted for the safety of the community.
The City of Santa Rosa’s Fire Department and Transportation and Public Works Department are working closely with the County of Sonoma and the Sonoma County Fire District to coordinate efforts. This includes planning for any potential evacuation warning or orders with the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office, Santa Rosa Police Department, Sonoma County Department of Emergency Management, and Permit Sonoma’s Building Division.
With more rain in the forecast, soil continues to reach saturation limits. Residents who notice any land or hillside movement should call 911.
