Traffic Stop Leads to the Recovery of Two Firearms

On November 30, 2024, at approximately 11:00 PM, Officers from the Santa Rosa Police Department conducted a proactive traffic enforcement stop on the 2300 block of McBride Lane, Santa Rosa. Upon contacting the occupants of the vehicle, the officers developed probable cause and received consent to conduct a search of the vehicle. One of the five occupants, who will not be identified due to his age, exited the vehicle and officers began a pat-search for weapons. The subject resisted officers and tried to flee the scene. Officers were able detain the subject in handcuffs, but two officers suffered minor injuries in the process. Officers completed a search of the subject and located a loaded .45 caliber Glock 19 handgun and brass knuckles on his person.

Officers continued their investigation and located a loaded, stolen .22 caliber revolver inside the vehicle. Officers determined Thomas Shaw, a resident of Hopland, was in possession the firearm while inside the vehicle.

Thomas Shaw was arrested and booked into Sonoma County Jail on the following charges:
  • 25850(c)(6) PC - Possession of an Unregistered Firearm
  • 496(a) PC - Possession of Stolen Property
  • 25400(a)(1) PC - Concealed Firearm in a Vehicle
  • 30305(a)(1) PC - Felon in Possession of Ammunition
The juvenile was booked into Juvenile Hall on the following charges:
  • 25852(c)(6) PC - Possession of an Unregistered Firearm
  • 25400(a)(2) PC - Concealed Firearm on a person
  • 21810 PC - Possession of Brass Knuckles
  • 30305(a)(1) PC - Prohibited Person in Possession of Ammunition
  • 29610 PC - Minor in Possession of a Firearm
  • 69 PC - Battery on a Police Officer with Injury
