Drunk driver recklessly crashes into four parked cars near youth soccer practices

On November 6, 2024, at approximately 4:45 pm, officers with the Santa Rosa Police Department (SRPD) were dispatched to A Place to Play community park at 2375 West Third Street to a report of a multi-vehicle collision in the parking lot. It was reported that a grey Lexus sedan had been driving recklessly in the north parking lot prior to losing control and colliding with four parked vehicles. All four vehicles were occupied by parents who were waiting for the conclusion of their children’s soccer practices. An adult female in one of the vehicles suffered minor injuries to her head and shoulder as a result of the collision. She was treated and released at the scene by medical personnel. At the time of this incident, it is estimated approximately 200 people were using the park, mostly children playing soccer and their families.

Immediately following the collision, the male driver of the Lexus attempted to flee the scene by running to a nearby trail. Multiple bystanders began running after the man and were able to physically detain him until SRPD arrival. The first officer to arrive at the scene detained the suspect in handcuffs without incident.

An Accident Investigator with the SRPD Traffic Division responded and assumed the investigation. It was determined the driver of the Lexus, Angel Uribe, a 19-year-old resident of Santa Rosa, was driving west through the lot and collided into a parked Chevrolet Tahoe and then into a GMC Sierra. The collision caused the GMC Sierra to collide into the two cars parked next to it. Uribe’s vehicle collided with the other vehicles with enough force to deploy his vehicle’s airbags. Based on his initial investigation, the Accident Investigator also believed Uribe was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.

Uribe has one prior DUI conviction in 2023, for which he is currently on probation. At the time of this crash, Uribe was out of custody on pre-trial supervision for a DUI arrest on August 7, 2024. Terms of both the probation and pre-trial supervision, as well as the legal drinking age in California, prohibit Uribe from possessing or consuming alcohol.

Uribe was arrested and booked into Sonoma County Jail for the following offenses:

23153(a) VC - DUI collision causing injury
23153(b) VC - DUI collision with a BAC of .08 percent or higher, causing injury
20001(a) VC - Hit and run collision causing injury
148.9 PC - Give false identification information to a peace officer
14601.2(a) VC - Drive on a license suspended for prior DUI
1203.2(a) VC - Violation of probation

Due to the severity of this incident, a bail enhancement of $500,000 was requested and approved by a Sonoma County Superior Court Judge.

Santa Rosa Police Department case number 24-13009.
