SRPD News Release: Women with prior arrest for embezzlement arrested by SRPD for theft from her previous Santa Rosa employer

Woman with prior arrest for embezzlement arrested by SRPD for theft from her previous Santa Rosa employer

On April 4, 2024, officers from Santa Rosa Police Department (SRPD) were dispatched to an embezzlement call involving a local business. Officers contacted representatives from the victim business, Amaturo Sonoma Media Group LLC, who believed a former employee had stolen over $100,000 while employed as a business manager.

Once officers took the initial police report from the victims, the investigation was turned over to the Santa Rosa Police Department’s Property Crimes Investigations Team (PCI). Detectives initiated a detailed investigation into the finances, completing an audit of expenses by the former employee, who had access to company checks and credit cards. After serving several search warrants at involved financial institutions and analyzing the records, detectives determined the suspect spent over $160,000 in unauthorized transactions. Those transactions included everything from household Amazon purchases, personal travel, lavish hotel stays, an extravagant birthday party for herself, and passing checks to herself.

Reviewing the financial records and accurately assessing the fraudulent transactions required significant follow up and resources. During this time, the suspect moved from Santa Rosa to San Jose, further complicating investigative follow up and surveillances.

On October 30, 2024, PCI detectives travelled to the suspect’s residence and served a search warrant in the 14000 block of Jerilyn Drive, San Jose, California. There they arrested 50-year-old Tina Cabudoy. Additional financial paperwork was located and seized from the residence as evidence.

Cabudoy was transported and booked into the Sonoma County Main Adult Detention Facility for violation of 503 PC – Embezzlement, with a bail enhancement of $100,000.

It should be noted that at the time of the original call for service, officers were already familiar with Cabudoy from a separate warrant arrest stemming from a San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office investigation. Cabudoy was arrested on March 3, 2024, for a felony arrest warrant out of San Mateo County. Investigators from San Mateo suspected Cabudoy of embezzling over $300,000 from a previous employer. Criminal and judicial proceedings for that investigation are still ongoing.
