Red Flag Warning 

A Red Flag Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) and goes into effect for a majority of Sonoma County including ALL of Santa Rosa starting Thursday, Oct. 17 at 11 p.m. through Saturday, Oct. 19 at 5 p.m. 

WINDS: 
Lower Elevations – North and northeast 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. 
Upper Elevations – North and northeast with the highest ridgetops and peaks seeing gusts up to 65 mph. 
 
RELATIVE HUMIDITY: 
Humidity will still be on the higher end at the start of the event on Thursday but is expected to drop as low as 10% Friday and Saturday. 

IMPACTS: 
The combination of gusty winds and low humidity can cause wildfire to rapidly grow in size and intensity. Outdoor burning is not recommended. Despite recent cool weather and high humidity, we are expecting a widespread and prolonged offshore wind event which will likely dry fuels out very quickly.  
 
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS:

El Servicio Meteorológico Nacional (NWS) ha emitido una Advertencia de Bandera Roja que entrará en vigor para la mayor parte del Condado de Sonoma, incluyendo TODO Santa Rosa, a partir del jueves 17 de octubre a las 11 p.m. La Advertencia de Bandera Roja finalizará localmente el sábado 19 de octubre a las 5 p.m. Se esperan ráfagas de viento del noreste con una humedad tan baja como el 10% que dará como resultado condiciones críticamente secas.  

VIENTOS:  

Elevaciones más Bajas: Norte y Noreste de 25 a 35 mph con ráfagas de hasta 45 mph.  
Elevaciones Superiores: Norte y Noreste con las crestas y picos más altos con ráfagas de hasta 65 mph.  

HUMEDAD RELATIVA:  
La humedad seguirá siendo alta al comienzo del evento el jueves, pero se espera que se seque rápidamente hasta un 10% el viernes y sábado.  

IMPACTOS:  
La combinación de ráfagas de viento y baja humedad puede hacer que el fuego crezca rápidamente en tamaño e intensidad. No se recomienda la quema al aire libre. A pesar del clima fresco reciente y la alta humedad, esperamos un evento eólico marino generalizado y prolongado que probablemente secará los combustibles muy rápidamente.

Una Advertencia de Bandera Roja significa que se están produciendo condiciones climáticas críticas de incendio ahora o se producirán en breve.
