CONVICTED FELON ARRESTED FOR POSSESSION OF A STOLEN LOADED GUN AND AMMUNITION

On Thursday September 19th at approximately 7:15am, an SRPD officer was dispatched to a residence in the 400 block of Avalon Avenue in Santa Rosa. An anonymous reporting party asked that the Santa Rosa Police Department conduct a welfare check on a subject, identified only as "Rafael". The reporting party was concerned about what she believed was “odd behavior” being exhibited by Rafael.

The SRPD officer arrived at the residence and began speaking with a male in the doorway. He identified himself as Rafael Pulido Valencia, a 50-year-old Santa Rosa resident. As the officer began speaking with Valencia, he observed what appeared to be loaded handgun magazines, sticking out of Valencia’s pocket.

The officer safely contacted Valencia, who was exhibiting signs of being paranoid and under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The officer detained Valencia for his safety and removed the magazines from Valencia’s pants pocket. Valencia then told the officer that he had a loaded handgun just inside of the door to the residence.

A second officer arrived on scene and the officers located a loaded 9mm Smith and Wesson Handgun on a couch just inside of the doorway.

The officers conducted a records check on Valencia and a records check of the handgun’s serial number. Valencia was shown to be a convicted Felon and a self-admitted Gang “dropout” The handgun had been reported stolen.

Valencia was subsequently arrested and booked into the Sonoma County Jail. He was charged with three felonies.  30305(a)(1) PC , 29800(a)(1)PC, 496(a) PC Felon in possession of ammo and a Felon in possession of a gun, and possession of stolen property
