Two Handguns Seized During Traffic Stop on Assault with a Deadly Weapon Suspect
 

On Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at approximately 9:40 pm, officers were dispatched to a call near the 1600 block of Sendero Lane in Santa Rosa, for a report of a male suspect kicking a vehicle and breaking out the windows. The suspect then went to his pick-up, retrieved a handgun, racked the handgun and pointed the firearm at the owner of the vehicle, causing him to be in fear of his life. The suspect reportedly left the area in a lifted, white GMC pick-up, the license plate number was provided to officers. Officers began searching for the suspect vehicle.

An officer located the suspect vehicle and with the assistance of other officers, conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. The driver was contacted and identified as the suspect in the assault with a firearm incident, Francisco Javier Palomino Alvarez, a 40-year-old resident of Santa Rosa. A firearm (Glock 40 cal.) was located on the right front passenger seat of the suspect vehicle, within reach of the driver. The handgun was accompanied by an extended magazine capable of holding 30 rounds of ammunition at a time. Officers discovered Alvarez was in possession of an additional firearm (1911 38 cal.), over a hundred rounds of ammunition and approximately 6 lbs. of packaged marijuana in the bed of his 2014 GMC pick-up.

Alvarez was driving with a suspended license and had several bottles open alcoholic beverages in the passenger compartment of his pick-up. Officers conducted a driving under the influence investigation and determined Alvarez to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage as well.

Due to a previous conviction for a felony offense, Alvarez is prohibited from owning or possessing firearms or ammunition.

Alvarez was arrested and booked into Sonoma County Jail for the following charges:

245(b) PC- Assault with a deadly weapon, specifically a firearm
594(b)(2) PC- Vandalism with damage greater than $400.
29800(a)(1) PC- Felon in possession of a firearm.
30305(a)(1) PC- Felon in possession of ammunition.
25400(a)(1) PC-Possession of a firearm in a vehicle.
32310 PC-Possession of an extended magazine
23152(a) VC – Driving under the influence
23152(b) VC-Driving under the influence with a BAC of .08% or greater
11359 HS-Possession of Marijuana for sale

Due to the fact the victim is a victim of a violent crime, his name will not be released.
