Wanted gang participant found in possession of loaded handgun

On 9/5/2024 at approximately 1500 hrs., The SRPD Gang Crimes Team located a wanted suspect in the area of Stony Point Rd and Glenbrook Ave.  The suspect, identified as Javier Lezama Montano, had a felony warrant issued for his arrest and was a person of interest in a threats case stemming from a STOPITNOW report through Santa Rosa City Schools.  As resources were being dispatched, Montano boarded a city bus.  The bus was followed by undercover Gang Detectives as additional Officers responded.  The bus traveled to the area of Dutton Meadow and Pebble Creek Ln and stopped at a bus stop near Meadow View Elementary School.  Lezama and two juvenile females exited the bus and began walking into a nearby apartment complex.  As Lezama walked into the apartment complex, Detectives attempted to contact Lezama and take him into custody.  Lezama tried to flee and was forcibly tackled to the ground.  Lezama briefly resisted but was taken into custody.  Incident to arrest, Detectives searched a small satchel slung across Lezama’s chest.  Inside the satchel was a loaded, 9mm handgun.  Lezama is believed to be an active gang participant and involved with the Sureno Criminal Street Gang.  He was subsequently booked at the Sonoma County jail for his arrest warrant and the following charges: 29800 PC Felon in possession of Firearm, 30305 PC Felon in possession ammunition, 25400 PC possession loaded gun in public, 148 PC Resisting arrest, 1203.2 PC Violation of Probation, 186.22 PC Gang Enhancement.
