Subject arrested for discharging a firearm


On May 1, 2026, at approximately 10:51 PM, the Santa Rosa Police Department Communications Center received multiple 911 calls reporting a subject firing a handgun from a vehicle in the 2900 block of Bay Village Circle.

Officers responded to the area and located the suspect vehicle. Upon arrival, officers observed a male subject standing outside the vehicle. The subject was identified as Marcos Garcia, a 22-year-old Santa Rosa resident. Officers safely contacted and detained Garcia without incident.

During a search of Garcia’s person, officers located a 9mm semi-automatic handgun concealed in his pants pocket. As part of the investigation, officers recovered seven (7) spent cartridge casings from the apartment complex parking lot.

Officers conducted a thorough check of the surrounding area for potential victims and property damage; however, none were located.

The handgun was not registered to Garcia and had no records of sale in California. 

Garcia was arrested and booked into jail on the following charges:

• 25850(a) Penal Code – Possession of a loaded firearm in public 
• 25400(a) Penal Code – Possession of a concealed firearm in public 
• 246.3 Penal Code – Negligent discharge of a firearm
