SRPD PCI Team Arrests Two People for Organized Retail Theft and Identity Theft
The Santa Rosa Police Department’s (SRPD) Property Crimes Investigations Team (PCI) has arrested two suspects connected to multiple organized retail thefts and significant identity‑theft activity following a comprehensive investigation.
On January 19, 2026, two suspects entered Oliver’s Market on Montecito Boulevard and stole more than $1,300 in vitamins. Through investigative resources and case follow‑up, PCI detectives identified Cody Benson and Mariah McGovern as the individuals responsible. On February 10, as detectives were in the process of completing the investigation, a manager with Oliver’s Market contacted the lead detective in this case and advised him the same man from the previous theft had come in the day before and stole approximately $80 in vitamins. When the detective reviewed the security camera footage from the second theft, he identified Benson as the suspect.
Based on the value of the stolen goods and repeated thefts, the detective authored a search warrant for the suspects’ shared residence, located in the 400 block of City Center Drive, Rohnert Park. On February 11, at approximately 6:45 a.m., PCI detectives executed the search warrant and arrested both Benson and McGovern. During the search, detectives located extensive personal identifying information for more than 20 potential victims in McGovern’s possession.
The detectives are currently reviewing and cataloging all the personal identifying information recovered during the search, working methodically to identify and contact every potential victim. This process is critical to ensuring that those affected are notified quickly, can protect their financial accounts, and can begin the steps toward restoring their identities. Arresting individuals involved in identity‑theft operations is essential, not only does it stop ongoing victimization, but it also prevents stolen information from being sold, reused, or passed through larger criminal networks. These arrests disrupt organized fraud activity and help safeguard community members from long‑term financial and emotional harm.
